Here is a quick and simple test which is surprisingly accurate. Ask yourself, on a scale of one to ten, if one is that you are quite happy to smoke & enjoy smoking, and ten is that you absolutely want to stop, where would you put yourself? Remember your immediate answer.

If someone wants to stop smoking they must want to do it for themselves, not others, but for themselves. But, that is only half of the picture.

The lowest answer I have ever been given is five. Makes sense because if someone enjoys smoking they wouldn't be on the phone to me asking about hypnotherapy to stop smoking! I tell everyone that has responded with a five to keep their money in their pockets and come and see me when they really want to stop. Some people seem surprised at this but the simple fact is that their motivation to stop isn't high enough. After I've told them that I won't let them book a smoking cessation appointment at the moment, some say "well I'm really at seven or eight". Their first answer was the honest one.

If you answered immediately with eight, nine or ten, pick up the phone and book an appointment!

Be happy,

Dave.
