A recent inquiry in to the effects of cannabis smoking and mental illness has shown that 8 out of 10 first episode psychiatric disorders occurred in those who were heavy cannabis users. The report listed no fewer than 400 different scientific studies that point to links between use of cannabis, illness and destructive behaviour.

Can hypnotherapy help?

If you are a recreational user and concerned about the future, then hypnotherapy may help in the same way that it can help a tobacco smoker. Consciously you know that smoking weed is not doing you any good and you may want to stop but the habit has been created so that whenever you see certain people, visit certain places or are in a specific situation, then the subconscious (illogically) reminds you that it is time for a burn. This habit can be broken but only if you are truly motivated and genuinely want to stop.

If, however, it has reached the stage of mental illness including psychosis and schizophrenia, then a doctor or relevant psychiatric professional must be consulted first.

The only person who can stop the progression towards mental illness, by stopping smoking cannabis, is the user and they must have reached a point where they truly want to stop for themselves, not for anyone else, but themselves. When this point is reached, hypnotherapy could be very effective at helping someone take back control of their life.

Be happy,

Dave.
