In the news recently here in the UK it has been announced by the Labour Government that in order to reduce the number of crimes committed by heroin addicts, free heroin will be given to them.

I seemed to have missed the bit about people being punished for the crimes they commit and so it seems have Labour.

No-one will stop doing anything until they want to stop so by giving free drugs to addicts, how is the desire to stop being an addict encouraged? It isn't.

If you have read some of my previous posts you will know that I believe totally in self-responsibility. Everyone is responsible for their own thoughts, feelings and actions. Of course, in any decent society, the role of society is to encourage, nurture and support its members but ultimately, my buck stops with me and your buck stops with you (The buck stops here = Responsibility is not passed on beyond this point).

I don't know whether some wet behind the ears do-gooder or Professor Brainiac Crackpot came up with this "free heroin" idea, but in my opinion it is lunacy.

Sometimes people don't change, or want to change, until there is enough pain in their situation to make them say "I have had enough of...." and Labour's plan does nothing to bring about motivation to stop.

There are plenty of good, skilled professionals out there who could genuinely and effectively help people who want to stop being an addict.

Labour's plan is a slap in the face to all of us and to the genuine addicts who want to stop.

Even though the world around you may sometimes seem like a crazy place, be happy.

Dave.
