As I mentioned in a previous post about "The Secret", I have kept an eye on the lottery results and it didn't happen. Several thousand people did not win the jackpot.

For those of you who do not know about "The Secret", it is a film based on the idea that anyone can have anything they want just by wishing it, and that everyone attracts everything whether it is good or bad.

So, if I want to live in a 10 bedroom house and have a million pounds, all I have to do is ask for it, believe it and it will happen. Hmmmm, lets assume we all wish for that and that everyone in the UK all of a sudden has at least £1,000,000. If that were to happen then the effect of inflation would mean that a loaf of bread would probably cost £20,000 so the million would effectively be worthless.

I now honestly believe that "The Secret" is a crock of horse stuff. It promotes the idea that no-one is responsible for themselves, just rely on the Universe and miracles will occur. My regular readers will know of my belief that we are all responsible for ourselves and that this current blame culture really degrades society, I've covered some of that in previous posts and will do so in future ones, and "The Secret" also promotes strongly that whatever happens to us in our lives is our fault, we asked for it. So, in a way it contradicts itself. On the one hand if we want a dream home, it blames us for not attracting it in the first place then suggests we get delusional and just sit there wishing for it and it will happen!

There is a massive difference between attracting things that we can influence ourselves, focusing our attention in a positive way, and wishing for a Rolls Royce, a Lear Jet, 50 squillion pounds and a massive house.

I believe that anyone is capable of doubling their income, finding a wonderful and fulfilling relationship and improving their lives for the better, but attracting a Lear Jet and 50 squillion pounds just by thinking about it? No, no way, I'll leave that to the many people jumping on the secret bandwagon.

Be happy, not delusional,

Dave.
