There is an old saying that "Knowledge is Power" but is that really true? I don't think it is. I think that knowledge is potential power, and let me explain my definition of "power" in the context of this blog post. Power to me means results and outcomes over which I have control, I decide the outcome, power over myself and not others, power over my choices.
Knowing what to do is not enough on it's own, it has to be backed up with actually doing it (action) otherwise the results of knowing what to do will never materialise, the knowing what to do is worthless without actually doing it.
How many times have you said "one day I'm going to......(fill in the blanks)......." What were you going to do but didn't? How many times have you said to a friend or family member, out of earshot about the person you are referring to, "he/she is a dreamer". Have you ever told someone to stop talking about it and just do it?
Knowledge is not power, knowledge is potential power.
Picking up the phone to make the call, writing that letter, doing the washing up (do you know someone that always says "I was just about to do that!" usually just as you've stacked the dishwasher or filled up the washing-up bowl or emptied the tumble drier or started to hoover - after the 20th time of you doing it and hearing the same old "I was just about to do that" maybe you say "why didn't you then?" or you just think to yourself yeah, yeah ,yeah), getting a new job, taking up a new hobby, losing weight, getting fit. We all know how to get fit, go for a walk or a run, but how many people actually do it?
Be a "do'er" not a "just about to do'er".
Don't talk about changing your life, change your life.
Knowing what to do is not enough, doing what you know is everything.
Be happy,
Dave.
